The Phantasy Star Universe gets bigger and more personal with the Ambition of Illuminus expansion pack. New weapons, levels, photon arts and cities are added to the worlds of the Gurhal star system along with new enemies. The story picks up from the end of the second episode of the online game, but it is not necessary to own the original as Ambition of the Illuminus is standalone and can be played in single-player offline mode or with other online players. The worlds are still threatened by the SEED monsters from deep space which have disrupted the 100-year peace on the planets. The human-supremacist Illuminus hope to take advantage of this chaos to build their power. While previously playing the role of Ethan Waber, players now take on their own personal role in defeating these menaces with fully customizable avatars. Fan-favorite areas have been added such as mines, ruins and caves including the mysterious Habirao forest on Neudaiz with its high concentration of photon and its giant mushrooms, or the ruins of Old Rozenom City. New specialist classes excel in certain battlefields or a particular style of combat. Players can meet up in the numerous new lobby areas including Casino Voloyal with its roulette and slot games.
